İmamoğlu speaks on planned visit to Chief Public Prosecutor Gürlek: Explains the scope of the meeting

İmamoğlu visited the IMM Health Affairs Department's Esenyurt Integrated Health Center and answered questions from journalists.

Regarding a question about the cancellation of his visit to Istanbul Chief Public Prosecutor Akın Gürlek, İmamoğlu stated that he had requested a meeting with Gürlek after he took office and that he had received a positive response.

Explaining that the meeting, which was supposed to take place the previous Thursday, was postponed to Monday, İmamoğlu said, "The trustee process in this district occurred on Thursday. An appointment was given for the next Thursday, which is today. My colleagues informed me last night, calling to say that there was a ministry visit and that they had cancelled the appointment within that scope. They did not consult on any date or calendar rescheduling," he said.

Noting that he had his staff request an appointment again this morning, İmamoğlu said, "The newly appointed Chief Public Prosecutor of Istanbul is visited by the Metropolitan Municipality; we talk and discuss. Through consultation, both he and we can perform our duties more effectively. The purpose of the meeting was within this scope. It still contains that scope now," he said.

When asked about CHP Chairman Özgür Özel's statement, "I would not recommend the appointment of a trustee to the IMM; we have worked on this for a long time," and the question, "Has there been preparation for such a scenario?" İmamoğlu replied, "The 16 million residents of Istanbul have no such scenario. The scenario of the 16 million residents of Istanbul is to find solutions to the problems and troubles of this city through cooperation and to lift this city up."

Stating that he could not watch the flow of the program that Özel attended, İmamoğlu said, "I was at a meeting about art and cultural life with a different delegation in the evening. I do not think the Chairman spoke only in this segment. Otherwise, our Chairman would not put the words 'Istanbul' and 'trustee' side by side. Perhaps such an answer emerged there due to the nature of the question," he said.

Regarding a journalist's question about Özel's statement referring to himself and Mansur Yavaş, "They are very successful in their jobs; candidacy discussions are not good for our party," İmamoğlu replied, "It is not even on our agenda. Our agenda right now is to eliminate the lawlessness and injustice practiced in this country. Those most responsible for this are the CHP and CHP administrators. I see myself as one of the most responsible people. We will do our job well day and night. This is a claim and a path taken. Candidacy 2-3-4 years from now, etc., these are details. I am a person who has fought greatly for my ideals. I am still part of that struggle. The rest is detail; the nation will decide that. When the day comes, I hope the nation will make the most correct decision for the future of this country and elect the new president."

Stating that the objection to Ahmet Özer's detention was decided in 3-5 hours, İmamoğlu said, "Lawyers cannot access information on UYAP regarding why it was rejected; they are hearing it from the press today."

İmamoğlu stated that they are protecting rights and the law today, saying, "Tomorrow, there will be those who need this right and law. We will protect the rights and laws of even them; this brother of yours will protect them."

When asked if he would participate in the protests in front of the Esenyurt Municipality, İmamoğlu said, "My colleagues are there. I am already a part of the vigil, of this organization."

Regarding Özgür Özel's statements on the allegations that a trustee will be appointed to the Ankara Metropolitan Municipality, İmamoğlu said, "Whatever fabricated work or concept there is, whether it is my fellow traveler Mansur Yavaş or Ahmet Türk in Mardin, we will go and put up the greatest fight," he said.
