İmamoğlu takes a jab at the AKP government: 'History will record you as usurers': He explains with figures

Istanbul Metropolitan Municipality Mayor Ekrem İmamoğlu, who has been making social media posts via the 'Presidential Candidate Office' account, has taken a jab at the AKP government, labeling them 'usurers'.

Istanbul Metropolitan Municipality Mayor Ekrem İmamoğlu, who is currently held at Marmara Prison in Silivri, made a post on his social media account. In his post, İmamoğlu took a jab at the AKP government over interest rates and stated the following:

History will record you as the "greatest usurers who pretend to be against interest."

The resources you transferred to interest payments from the budget you manage have increased by 99% as of April compared to last year. In contrast, revenue growth has remained at 50%.

In the first four months, you have reached half of the 2025 budget deficit forecast.

The support you pay with a delay to the farmers you have made unable to make a living will total 135 billion TL for this year, but you have transferred 725 billion TL to the loan sharks you go to and beg for help in just the first 4 months.

As if this money you gave to the usurers was not enough, after the March 19 coup you planned behind closed doors, you burned 55 billion dollars in reserves and pushed the Central Bank interest rate to 49%.

While enriching the loan sharks, you condemned the country's producers to credit debt with 70% interest. You have treated Turkey's SMEs, industrialists, tradespeople, and laborers, who produce and create employment with their sweat day and night, like spare change.

History will remember you as the "financial leg of the March 19 coup carried out against the will of 16 million voters with trumped-up charges."

You will never get rid of this stain. Let this be a burden on you.
