Bayrampaşa Mayor Hasan Mutlu and 19 others, including 8 CHP municipal council members, were arrested as part of an investigation into corruption allegations against the Bayrampaşa Municipality. Following the operation, 4 municipal council members resigned, and the CHP lost its majority in the municipal council.
Ekrem Imamoglu, the CHP's presidential candidate and the Mayor of Istanbul Metropolitan Municipality (IMM), who has been imprisoned in Silivri Prison since March 23, issued a harsh statement regarding the matter through his lawyers.
Imamoglu's statement was shared on the social media account named the Presidential Candidate Office. Emphasizing that an 'Escobar order' has been established with the operation against the Bayrampaşa Municipality, Imamoglu noted the following in his statement:
