CHP Esenyurt Mayor Ahmet Özer has been detained as part of a terrorism investigation. Searches were also conducted at Özer's home and the municipal building. IMM Mayor Ekrem İmamoğlu reacted to the detention decision.

CHP Esenyurt Mayor Ahmet Özer was detained as part of an investigation conducted by the Istanbul Chief Public Prosecutor's Office and taken to the Vatan Police Headquarters.

'HE IS A VALUABLE SCIENTIST AND LOCAL ADMINISTRATOR'

Following the detention decision, IMM Mayor Ekrem İmamoğlu stated the following in a post on social media:

"Our Esenyurt Mayor, Prof. Dr. Ahmet Özer, was detained this morning. We are following the process meticulously. Mr. Özer, who has served in the state and held high-level positions in universities ranging from dean to vice-rector, is a valuable scientist and local administrator. Turkey must stop being a country where morning home raids are conducted against politicians and scientists."
