IMM responds to claims that 'İmamoğlu's diploma is fake': They also shared his master's degree certificate

Journalist Erdem Atay had claimed in a broadcast on Veryansın TV that the university diploma of Istanbul Metropolitan Municipality (IMM) Mayor Ekrem İmamoğlu was fake. Following these allegations by Atay, a response backed by documents came from the IMM.

While Atay claimed that IMM Mayor Ekrem İmamoğlu's university diploma was fake, IMM Teyit, which responds to claims circulating in the public sphere, shared İmamoğlu's undergraduate diploma.

In a broadcast on Veryansın TV, Erdem Atay claimed that Istanbul Metropolitan Municipality (IMM) Mayor Ekrem İmamoğlu's university diploma was fake, stating, "İmamoğlu's diploma is fake. İmamoğlu studied in Cyprus, he won that place. From there, he transferred to another Cyprus university in 1987. You either do a vertical transfer or a horizontal transfer. You cannot do both vertical and horizontal transfers. He transferred from the engineering department he studied there to Istanbul University via horizontal transfer. There is something more important. The Council of Higher Education (YÖK) was not approving Girne American University, where İmamoğlu was studying at the time."

RESPONSE FROM IMM

The response from the IMM to the claims circulating in the public sphere regarding the alleged fake diploma of İmamoğlu was not delayed. The IMM Teyit account, which was opened to correct slanders and misinformation directed at the IMM, shared İmamoğlu's undergraduate diploma and stated, "The claim that IMM Mayor Ekrem İmamoğlu does not have a university diploma is completely fabricated. Mr. İmamoğlu is a graduate of the Istanbul University Faculty of Business Administration. The graduation certificate, a photocopy of which we are sharing below, is in the archives of the IMM and the university."

MURAT ONGUN ALSO SHARED MASTER'S DEGREE CERTIFICATE

Following IMM Teyit, İmamoğlu's advisor Murat Ongun, who made a post on his X account, also shared İmamoğlu's master's degree diploma, stating, "For those trying to create controversy over IMM Mayor Ekrem İmamoğlu's undergraduate (university) diploma, we also present his MASTER'S DEGREE certificate for information.".
