AKP Chairman and President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan has taken an important step regarding "smart drugs" used in cancer treatment that are not covered by the Social Security Institution (SGK), requesting that work be initiated for the domestic production of these drugs.

According to a report by the Türkiye newspaper, known for its proximity to the government, Erdoğan instructed the relevant ministries to take swift and effective action.

These drugs are currently obtained through imports, and their costs vary depending on the duration of treatment and dosage. Prices can range from 100 thousand TL up to 2 million TL. For example, a treatment lasting 12 cycles can cost a patient approximately 2.2 million TL. Because the SGK does not cover these drugs, many patients are forced to resort to legal action.

Erdoğan stated, "It is clear that we will make our own smart drugs ourselves. If we can build TOGG, UAVs, UCAVs, and KAAN, we can also produce our own smart drugs. Let us act very quickly on this matter. Let us start work on this by providing all kinds of resources and R&D support. Furthermore, let us take steps to resolve the grievances currently being experienced."

It was noted that Erdoğan instructed Minister of Justice Yılmaz Tunç and Minister of Labor and Social Security Vedat Işıkhan to resolve existing grievances, and requested that other relevant ministries also begin work on domestic smart drug production.
