AFAD reported that an earthquake with a magnitude of 4.9 occurred in the Yenice district of Çanakkale at 21:38 last night (March 4).
The earthquake, which was felt in surrounding provinces, particularly in Istanbul, caused brief panic.
Geoscientist Prof. Dr. Naci Görür shared a post on his social media account regarding the earthquake that unsettled citizens.

"A 4.9 magnitude earthquake occurred in Yenice, Çanakkale last night. The earthquake was on the Yenice-Gönen fault. The last earthquake on this fault occurred in 1953 with a magnitude of 7.2. Such relatively small earthquakes are expected in a region where stress accumulation exists. Best regards."
