Senior Geophysical Engineer Prof. Dr. Ahmet Ercan issued important warnings regarding the newly discovered fault line in Bursa. Emphasizing that it would not be surprising for the fault line to produce an earthquake with a magnitude between 6 and 7.2, Ercan stated, "Unfortunately, Bursa continues to expand toward the unstable, earthquake-sensitive plain. The public will pay for this mistake with their lives. The municipality that granted permission should be put on trial."

Ankara University, Kocaeli University, and Eskişehir Technical University discovered the Kayapa-Yenişehir Fault, which was not previously on maps, during their research on active fault lines in Bursa. It is said that this fault could produce an earthquake with a magnitude of 7.3.

An important statement regarding the newly discovered fault line in Bursa came from Senior Geophysical Engineer Prof. Dr. Ahmet Ercan.

In a post on his social media account, Ercan warned, “There are invisible, earthquake-generating fractures in Turkey. It is stated that the branch of the Kayapa-Yenişehir Fracture, which 3 universities identified in Bursa through geophysical imaging, extending to the Bursa Plain is 40 km long, and the eastern Yenişehir branch is 55 km long. This fracture caused the 1855 earthquake in the past.”

"IT WOULD NOT BE SURPRISING IF IT PRODUCES EARTHQUAKES BETWEEN 6 AND 7.2"

Prof. Dr. Övgün Ahmet Ercan continued his statements with the following remarks:

"It would not be surprising if it produces earthquakes between M6 and M7.2 in the future. However, there is no warning that an immediate earthquake is expected. Unfortunately, Bursa continues to expand toward the unstable, earthquake-sensitive plain.

The public will pay for this mistake with their lives. The municipality that granted permission should be put on trial. There are invisible, earthquake-generating fractures in Turkey."
