Istanbul was shaken by a severe earthquake today. The tremor was felt strongly throughout the entire Marmara region.
The Disaster and Emergency Management Authority (AFAD) announced that the earthquake occurred at 12:49 PM. The earthquake, which took place off the coast of Silivri in the Sea of Marmara, was measured at a magnitude of 6.2 and occurred at a depth of 13.1 kilometers.
The tremor was felt not only in Istanbul but also in surrounding provinces and the Aegean region.
Aftershocks are continuing in the region following the earthquake. According to initial findings, two more aftershocks with magnitudes of 4.9 and 4.4 occurred.
On the other hand, it was reported that another earthquake with a magnitude of 3.9 was recorded in the Sea of Marmara at 12:13 PM.
Following the earthquakes that caused great panic, eyes turned to statements from experts. A statement regarding the earthquake came from Prof. Dr. Naci Görür.
Journalist Candaş Tolga Işık stated in a post on social media that he had spoken with geologist Prof. Dr. Naci Görür and that Görür had made the following statement to him:
"This is not an earthquake you can say is over and done with. Turkey has once again been reminded of an agenda that should never change. The big earthquake is saying it is coming. I am warning the authorities once again regarding Istanbul. We have no time to lose, none left."
