Important warning from Naci Görür to municipalities regarding the expected earthquake
Geoscientist and Earthquake Expert Prof. Dr. Naci Görür stated, "Earthquake debris must either be recycled or disposed of using international methods. Its contact with air and water must be cut off. Municipalities should think about this now; it will be too late when the earthquake happens."

Speaking at a program where he met with citizens in the Merzifon district of Amasya, which is located on a first-degree earthquake zone, Geoscientist and Earthquake Expert Prof. Dr. Naci Görür pointed out that earthquake debris contains asbestos, iron, cement, paper, chemical substances, flammable materials, and toxic substances.
Prof. Dr. Görür said, "If you do what everyone else does—they did it in Istanbul—and load it into trucks and dump it into the sea or the surroundings, you will destroy yourselves.
In the long run, you will cause the death of people whom the earthquake could not kill by polluting the environment," he said.
"MUNICIPALITIES SHOULD THINK ABOUT THIS NOW"
Underlining that while preparing structures in their areas of responsibility to be earthquake-resistant, municipalities must also plan for the disposal and recycling of debris from buildings that may collapse in a potential earthquake, Görür stated, "Municipalities should think about this now; it will be too late when the earthquake happens. In that chaos and noise, they might not know what to do."
Merzifon Mayor Alp Kargı, who hosted the program, also emphasized that they are striving to build an earthquake-resilient Merzifon.
