Indictment prepared against Beyoğlu Mayor İnan Güney: Up to 35 years in prison requested
The prosecutor's indictment has been completed in the investigation conducted into Beyoğlu Mayor İnan Güney. It has been requested that the file for Güney, who faces up to 35 years in prison, be merged with another ongoing case involving the Istanbul Metropolitan Municipality.

A new development has occurred in the investigation into Beyoğlu Mayor İnan Güney, who has been in prison for seven months.
According to the report by journalist Ceylan Sever, the indictment prepared by the prosecutor's office accuses Güney and his close working team of "fraud to the detriment of public institutions and organizations" and "aiding a criminal organization without being a member."
According to the information in the indictment, not only Güney but also Chief of Staff Seyhan Özcan, his sister Sabriye Akkaya, his brother-in-law İsmail Akkaya, his driver Deniz Göleli, and his bodyguard Veysel Eren Güven were referred to court to be punished under the same charges. The prosecutor's office requested prison sentences for these individuals ranging from 12 years and 8 months up to 35 years each.
Furthermore, a request was submitted for the file to be merged with the corruption case concerning the Istanbul Metropolitan Municipality (İBB), which is currently ongoing at the Istanbul 40th High Criminal Court.
WHAT HAPPENED?
Within the scope of the operation launched in August last year, a total of 44 people were detained in the investigation into the Beyoğlu Municipality. Of the individuals included in the judicial process on two different dates, 17 people, including Mayor Güney, were arrested. The remaining 27 people were released with judicial control conditions and a travel ban.
In statements made during the investigation, it was alleged that some of the detained individuals were processed in connection with Istanbul Metropolitan Municipality Advisor Murat Ongun. Thus, claims emerged that the ongoing investigation was not limited to the Beyoğlu Municipality but was part of a broader corruption file covering different municipalities.
While İnan Güney and the other suspects await a fair trial within the scope of the indictment to be referred to the court, it remains to be seen how the judicial process will proceed.
