Indictment prepared for 13 people who threatened Prosecutor Yavuz Engin, who launched the 'Newborn Gang' case, in his office

A new development has occurred in the 'Newborn Gang' case, in which suspects are being tried on allegations of referring infant patients to neonatal units of pre-arranged private hospitals, leading to their deaths and gaining illicit profit through this method.

The investigation into the death threats made against Public Prosecutor Yavuz Engin, who launched the case, by one of the defendants, Mustafa Kemal Zengin, has been completed.

The investigation launched into an organization determined to be preparing an assassination against Public Prosecutor Yavuz Engin, who serves at the Büyükçekmece Chief Public Prosecutor's Office, was transferred to the Bakırköy Chief Public Prosecutor's Office Organized Crime Investigation Bureau with a summary of proceedings dated May 23, 2025.

INDICTMENT ACCEPTED

The summary of proceedings and the investigation file were examined in detail by the Organized Crime Investigation Bureau. As a result of the evaluation, a case was filed at the Bakırköy 21st High Criminal Court against 13 suspects for the crimes of "attempting to influence a judicial officer," "establishing an armed criminal organization," "threatening multiple people using the names of a criminal organization," and "unlawfully obtaining or disseminating personal data."

The court accepted the indictment today and initiated the trial process for the defendants. Within the scope of the investigation, the details of the threats and assassination plans against Prosecutor Yavuz Engin also came to light. It was determined that the suspects acted in an organized manner.

WHAT HAPPENED?

Important details emerged in the investigation conducted into a criminal organization identified as having planned an assassination against Büyükçekmece Public Prosecutor Yavuz Engin.

In the summary of proceedings prepared by the Special Investigation Bureau upon Prosecutor Engin's request, it was stated that an investigation was launched against the organization members on serious charges such as "attempted intentional homicide," "threats," "attempting to influence judicial duties," "unlawful acquisition of personal data," and "violation of the privacy of private life."

Within the scope of the investigation, it was determined that the organization leader Mustafa Kemal Zengin and one of the members, Aylin Arslantatar, made threats to secure the release of Tuğçe Toptemel, who is under arrest in the Newborn Gang file handled by Engin, and shared vehicle information and the daily route belonging to Prosecutor Engin.

The summary of proceedings stated that the organization attempted to influence judicial processes with its hierarchical structure established under Zengin's leadership, established contact with public officials, and that its activities were defined as an "armed detective organization." The 88-page summary of proceedings containing all this information was submitted to the Bakırköy Chief Public Prosecutor's Office for review.
