The indictment has been prepared regarding the case of two-year-old Baby Sıla, who passed away after a 30-day struggle for life in the hospital following sexual abuse and violence in Tekirdağ. It was stated that the mother, who was arrested in connection with Baby Sıla's death, attempted suicide in the prison where she is being held.
SHE IS BEING HELD IN A SOLITARY CELL
Ahmet Ersoy, the lawyer for Baby Sıla's aunt, stated that all suspects in the file will now be tried as defendants in the high criminal court, and expressed that Baby Sıla's imprisoned mother had reached out to him in recent weeks through another inmate.
Lawyer Ersoy said the following:
“She said, 'I am experiencing trauma due to my child's passing.' At the same time, we learned later that she had an attempt within the prison that posed a risk to her life with the intent to harm herself. She attempted this by using a sharp needle to injure her arms and wrists. Afterward, she was placed under surveillance in a way that she would stay in a solitary cell at the Marmara Penal Execution Institution. She can legally reach her relatives every 15 days. Although the aunts tried to stay away from her, the prison administration stated that her condition was poor and provided clothing assistance as a one-time exception. Regarding the matter, there was a visitation request made to me through another inmate inside. She asked me to visit, saying she had things she wanted to say and express regarding the subject. Of course, I did not accept this visit."
Emphasizing that the mother has a large share in the chain of negligence in Baby Sıla's death, Lawyer Ahmet Berksoy said:
“We believe that the mother is at the forefront of the people who caused Baby Sıla to lose her life, through a serious, repetitive chain of negligence. For this reason, we rejected her requests. She sent us some documents related to the file via a letter to her family. Regarding certain issues, by saying ‘I don’t know, I don’t remember,’ we can observe that she has attitudes and thoughts that very clearly and explicitly protect the crime and the criminal, and conceal evidence of the crime, and that her actions in this regard have also taken place."
