Individual who made social media posts targeting Erdoğan and Bahçeli detained

An investigation had been launched into a suspect who made posts targeting AKP Chairman and President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan and MHP Chairman Devlet Bahçeli. It has been announced that the individual in question has been taken into custody.

The Istanbul Chief Public Prosecutor's Office has launched an ex officio investigation into an individual identified as Z.M., who was found to have made posts on social media regarding AKP Chairman and President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan and MHP Chairman Devlet Bahçeli.

Within the scope of the investigation, instructions were issued to police units for search, seizure, and detention procedures regarding the suspect Z.M.

TAKEN INTO CUSTODY: 'DUE TO POSTS CONTAINING INSULTS...'

The General Directorate of Security (EGM) reported that the individual was taken into custody in İzmir.

The statement issued by the EGM noted the following:

"In the work carried out by our İzmir Police Department Cyber Crimes Combat Branch, it was determined that the person who insulted our President, Mr. Recep Tayyip Erdoğan, on the social networking site X is Z.M. The individual, against whom a judicial investigation was initiated due to posts containing 'insulting the President' and 'insulting a public official due to their duty,' was taken into custody at their residence in İzmir."
