At the AKP's 8th Ordinary Grand Congress, members of parliament from the IYI Party and the Future Party (Gelecek Partisi) were transferred. Some of these individuals were included in the AKP's Central Decision and Executive Board (MKYK).
According to a report by the Türkiye newspaper, known for its proximity to the government, the AKP will continue its MP transfers. It has been learned that the AKP, aiming to reach 360 deputies to re-nominate AKP Chairman and President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan and to pass an election decision in the Grand National Assembly of Turkey (TBMM), will keep the door open for further transfers.
The report states that in the coming days, there may be new additions from the Future Party (Gelecek), DEVA, and the IYI Party, as well as some independent deputies.
The AKP argues that a parliamentary decision for an election is sufficient for Erdoğan to be a presidential candidate, and therefore, it wants to reach the 360-seat majority in Parliament.
'NOVEMBER 7, 2027' STANDS OUT
For some time, party insiders have been responding to the opposition's early election demands by pointing to the autumn of 2027. The date of November 7, 2027, has even begun to be mentioned for the election. Despite the opposition stating that they would not support a decision taken by Parliament for an election held after 2026, it was noted that the AKP leadership expressed the view: "When the day comes, no one can run from an election. They cannot explain this to the nation. Therefore, the most logical path right now would be to hold the election in the autumn of 2027. For the President's re-nomination, whatever the date, it is sufficient to pass an election decision through Parliament. Because pursuing a constitutional amendment regarding candidacy is more difficult and highly unlikely under these conditions.
