Instigator had been acquitted in Ata Emre Akman murder: Statement from Minister Tunç

In Balıkesir, 17-year-old assailant Erdoğan Özdemir, the killer of university student and courier Ata Emre Akman, received a 24-year prison sentence.

The father, who was accused of instigation, was acquitted. A statement came from Minister of Justice Yılmaz Tunç regarding the courier murder case that has been on Turkey's agenda.

Minister Tunç spoke as follows:

"It is a brutal murder that deeply wounded us all. Our wish is for such crimes not to occur in our country. Of course, when a crime is committed, the necessary punishment must be imposed. Our independent and impartial judiciary gave the necessary sentence; however, due to him being under 18, it was forced to give a 24-year sentence. There was a decision regarding the acquittal of the instigator. The Chief Public Prosecutor appealed this because the decision was contrary to the opinion. The independent and impartial judicial process will continue; that is, there is an appellate review and a Supreme Court review, so we need to wait for the judiciary's decision on this matter."

FATAL ACCIDENT INVOLVING KEREM KINIK'S DAUGHTER

In Istanbul's Beykoz district, 16-year-old Batın Barlas Çeki, who was a passenger on the back of a motorcycle, lost his life in a collision between a car and a motorcycle. The motorcycle driver and two pedestrians on the sidewalk were injured. It was learned that the car driver was Fatma Zehra Kınık, the daughter of former Red Crescent president Kerem Kınık. After being detained following the accident, driver Kınık was released under judicial control conditions by the court she was brought before after procedures at the police station.

Minister of Justice Yılmaz Tunç answered questions from members of the press after his program.

'I HAVE NO INFORMATION REGARDING THIS FILE'

Regarding the question asked about the accident involving Kerem Kınık's daughter, Tunç replied, "I have no information regarding this file. If there is an error in the content of the file, it will certainly be corrected through an appeal process. It would not be right for us to comment on the file or the decision the judiciary will make."
