Interior Ministry: Attack on Turkish fishing boat west of Crimea in the Black Sea: 1 dead, 4 injured

The Coast Guard Command of the Ministry of Interior announced that an attack was carried out on the Turkish-flagged fishing boat named Duru 67 off the coast of Sevastopol in the Black Sea, resulting in 1 death and 4 injuries.

In a written statement issued by the Coast Guard Command, it was stated: "On June 5, 2026, information was received that an attack was carried out on the Turkish-flagged fishing boat named Duru 67 in the Black Sea (west of Crimea, off the coast of Sevastopol).

Developments regarding the aforementioned attack and the ongoing search and rescue operations are provided below. The fishing boat named Duru 67, which was damaged as a result of the attack, has sunk. The fishing boat named Burak Kaya, which was in the vicinity, immediately evacuated our 5 injured fishermen from the sunken boat and began transit toward Inebolu; during the transit, one of our fishermen, whose condition was critical, unfortunately lost his life.

Following the receipt of the report, coordination was established with the aforementioned fishing boat to immediately provide medical support to our injured fishermen and evacuate them to medical facilities. One vessel belonging to our Coast Guard Command (TCSG-96) departed from Inebolu Port as of 12:35 PM with a specialized medical team of 19 people, including 4 doctors, 15 UMKE/nurses, and auxiliary medical personnel.

Our assigned Coast Guard unit (TCSG-96) reached our fishing boat named Burak Kaya at 7:20 PM, 115 nautical miles north of the Turkish Search and Rescue Region, off the coast of Inebolu.

The body of our deceased fisherman and our injured fishermen were transferred to the Coast Guard unit, where medical intervention was initiated, and the return transit to Inebolu Port began. We wish God's mercy upon our fisherman who lost his life and a speedy recovery to our injured," the statement said.

IDENTITY OF THE DECEASED HAS BEEN CONFIRMED

According to the report by 61saat, the identity of the person who lost his life has been confirmed. Cüneyt Varlık, who was on the boat during the attack, has died. Mustafa Yılmaz, the headman (muhtar) of the Mersin neighborhood in Trabzon, confirmed the incident and expressed their deep sorrow.
