Military operations in Syria have led to tense moments in two provinces in eastern Turkey. Using the interventions against the YPG in the Hasakah region of Syria as a pretext, certain groups took to the streets in Van and Ağrı during the night, attempting to hold unauthorized demonstrations.

Police teams quickly intervened in the unauthorized protests. In Ağrı, security forces did not allow the crowd to march, and many people were detained during the ensuing scuffles. A similar situation occurred in Van, where demonstrators were met with police resistance and their attempts at unauthorized marches were suppressed.

While it is observed that developments in Syria provided the backdrop for these demonstrations in Van and Ağrı, security measures have been increased in the cities. It was stated that investigations regarding those detained are ongoing.

Authorities issued statements declaring that public order will be maintained and that similar incidents will not be tolerated under any circumstances. It is known that tensions in the region have risen following the events that took place after the start of a 15-day ceasefire in Syria.
