In his statement, Ömer Çelik included the following remarks:
“A decision has been made to refer our mayors and organization officials who attended the opening of a business subject to a boycott decision in Rize to the disciplinary board. This process will be strictly monitored by our Organization Presidency."
OPENING DURING BOYCOTT STATEMENTS
The fact that the mayors who attended the opening in Rize supported a boycotted business drew backlash within the party. Following the incident, the AK Party announced that it had activated the disciplinary mechanism against the participating officials and that the process had begun. It was stated that the organization would act with sensitivity toward such situations and that the public is also closely following the process.
While the outcome of the disciplinary investigation conducted by the AKP is awaited with curiosity, this situation within the organization has also caused discomfort among the party leadership.
