The prosecutor's office has launched an ex officio investigation into Furkan Bölükbaşı, who has frequently made headlines for his insulting social media posts, on charges of publicly insulting the memory of Atatürk.

Bölükbaşı had referred to Anıtkabir, the mausoleum of Gazi Mustafa Kemal Atatürk, as a "Greek temple" and had made posts insulting the victory of the War of Independence.

An investigation was opened into Furkan Bölükbaşı following his remarks: "If we won the War of Independence, why is there a Greek temple in the heart of the capital?"

He had previously made posts targeting busts of Atatürk and had written that he opposed President Erdoğan's speeches commemorating Atatürk.
