Investigation launched into İmamoğlu's remarks in the IMM case!

CHP's imprisoned presidential candidate and Istanbul Metropolitan Municipality Mayor Ekrem İmamoğlu is facing a new judicial process due to statements he made in his defense during the ongoing IMM case. The Bakırköy Chief Public Prosecutor's Office evaluated the words “..the only criminal organization in this file is the prosecution...”, which İmamoğlu directed at judicial members during the hearing, as a criminal element and launched an ex officio investigation on charges of “insulting a public official due to their duty.”

STATEMENT FROM THE CHIEF PUBLIC PROSECUTOR'S OFFICE

In the statement made by the Chief Public Prosecutor's Office regarding the matter, it was stated: “In some press outlets and social media accounts; regarding the words ‘..the only criminal organization in this file is the prosecution...’ which were understood to have been uttered by defendant Ekrem İmamoğlu during the 06.04.2026 hearing of the Istanbul 40th High Criminal Court's file numbered 2025/318, directed at the judicial members serving in the investigation conducted by the Istanbul Chief Public Prosecutor's Office, known in the public eye as the İmamoğlu criminal organization for profit case, an ex officio investigation has been launched by the Bakırköy Chief Public Prosecutor's Office for the crime of ‘insulting a public official due to their duty.’”

It was reported that this is the second investigation conducted against İmamoğlu since the hearing process of the IMM case began. It was announced last week that a separate investigation had been launched for “insulting and threatening a public official due to their duty” because of certain words İmamoğlu used against judicial members during another trial process known as the “Expert Witness Case.”
