Investigation launched into lieutenant involved in gendarmerie intervention at Marmara Prison: Gendarmerie General Command announces

The Gendarmerie General Command has announced that an administrative investigation has been launched into the lieutenant who was prominent in the 'harsh intervention against citizens' incident at Marmara Prison.

Footage of the gendarmerie lieutenant who intervened harshly against citizens in front of the courthouse before the hearing of Ekrem İmamoğlu's diploma case was shared on social media, drawing criticism from the public.

Following the successive reactions, the Gendarmerie General Command issued a press release and provided information that an administrative investigation had been launched into the lieutenant.

The following statement was made by the Command regarding the events that took place:

"During the hearing held on 15.01.2026 at the Marmara Penal Execution Institution courtroom no. 4, a group that could not be admitted to the building due to courtroom capacity chanted slogans

and resisted the Gendarmerie personnel; the group in question was intervened with proportionally within the framework of legal authority.

Upon the intensification of the resistance against the Gendarmerie personnel ensuring the security of the courtroom and the use of words containing severe insults directed at the on-duty personnel from within the crowd; it has been determined that one personnel member carried out a separate intervention against the group in question in the area where the events occurred.

An administrative process has been initiated regarding the events that took place.
