Investigation launched into Özgür Özel's 'red card betting' claims: 5.5 million lira

Republican People's Party (CHP) Chairman Özgür Özel stated in his speech in Esenyurt yesterday, "In the match where the referee gave an unfair red card to Göztepe in İzmir, someone from Northern Cyprus placed a 5.5 million lira bet on a red card."

The Istanbul Chief Public Prosecutor's Office evaluated Özel's statement and took action.

In the statement made by the Chief Public Prosecutor's Office, it was noted that Özel made claims stating, "In the match where the referee gave an unfair red card to Göztepe in İzmir, someone from Northern Cyprus placed a 5.5 million lira bet on a red card."

The statement recorded that an ex officio investigation has been launched to research the event and individuals mentioned in the claims.
