Investigation into the murder of Aynur Kanbur gains momentum: New details emerge

The case regarding the death of Aynur Kanbur, a well-known member of the Mezdeke dance group who was killed in an armed attack in Şişli, Istanbul, in March 2016, has returned to the agenda after many years. Significant new findings have been made in the case of Kanbur, who was shot and killed in front of the entrance to her home on Narçiçeği Street in the Fulya neighborhood. To date, no match has been found between the weapon used in the incident or the recovered shell casings and any other crime or weapon.

As part of the investigation, following a petition filed by Kanbur's sister in 2017, an investigation was launched into family members and relatives Fazlı K., Yüksel K., and Serdar K. based on allegations. It was claimed that Aynur Kanbur had been threatened by her relatives with statements such as, "No belly dancer comes from our family." Teams deepening the investigation determined that the suspects kept their phones turned off on the day of the incident and that the phones were not used for a long time immediately afterward. Furthermore, it was revealed that one of the suspects, Yüksel K., traveled abroad to the USA two days before the incident and also kept his phone turned off during the same hours.

CLUES SOLVED WITH NEW TECHNOLOGY

Later, the Cold Case Investigation Department, established under the Ministry of Justice, re-examined the file. By evaluating camera footage and Istanbulkart activity, it was determined that the person who carried out the attack traveled toward Avcılar by Metrobus after the incident. Bülent G. was identified as a suspect. Additionally, technical surveillance revealed that Bülent G. turned off his phone before the incident and, upon turning it back on the next day, exchanged messages with Serdar K., who is considered the instigator.

COMPANY CONNECTION

As the investigation deepened, it was learned that there was a dispute between Aynur Kanbur and the suspects over inherited joint land. Furthermore, records show that the suspect Bülent G. had previously worked as an insured employee at his relatives' company.

ARRESTS FOLLOWING SIMULTANEOUS OPERATION

Upon the instructions of the Istanbul Chief Public Prosecutor's Office, teams from the Public Security Branch conducted simultaneous operations at various addresses in Istanbul in the morning hours. Bülent G., identified as the perpetrator of the murder, and Fazlı K. and Serdar K., considered to be the instigators, were taken into custody. While the suspects' processing at the police station continues, the investigation into the incident is ongoing from multiple angles.
