Investigation launched after illegal immigrant found in mayor's official vehicle
The allegation that an immigrant was found in the official vehicle of the mayor in the Akçakale district of Şanlıurfa has caused a stir in the city. The incident has been referred to judicial authorities, and representatives from the opposition have voiced their reactions.

In Akçakale, one of the border districts of Şanlıurfa, the allegation that a Syrian national was caught in the official vehicle, which also contained the mayor, has dropped like a bombshell. The incident came to light during an inspection conducted in front of the Akçakale Customs Directorate on July 11.
INVESTIGATION LAUNCHED BY THE PROSECUTOR'S OFFICE
According to information obtained from local sources, a person identified as H.E.K., who is stated to be a Syrian citizen, was found in the official vehicle of Akçakale Mayor Abdülhakim Ayhan, alongside the mayor and his driver. As a result of the examinations, it was stated that this person had entered Turkey through illegal means.
Immediately following the incident, the Akçakale Chief Public Prosecutor's Office launched an official investigation. Issues such as the purpose for which the vehicle was used, and by whom and in what manner the immigrant was taken into the vehicle, have been placed under scrutiny. It was also reported that a separate investigation is being conducted regarding the Syrian national.
POLITICAL REACTIONS RISE
As soon as the allegations in question were reflected in the public eye, CHP Şanlıurfa Deputy Mahmut Tanal reacted harshly to the incident. In a statement on his social media account, Tanal used the following expressions:
" Is it among the duties and authorities of the Akçakale mayor to be involved in the entry process of Syrian nationals into Turkey, or are we unaware of it?
What is this person's relationship with the mayor?
What is the purpose of this journey?
Have public power or municipal resources been used? All of these must be uncovered through an independent judicial investigation.
If the information note below is correct; the incident must be investigated in all its dimensions in terms of aiding immigrant smuggling, abuse of office, or other related crimes. Camera footage, vehicle entry-exit information, passport records, and all electronic evidence must be secured immediately.
If the same allegations had emerged about a CHP mayor, wouldn't a dawn operation have been carried out today? Wouldn't his home have been raided? Wouldn't the municipality have been searched? Wouldn't detentions and arrest requests have come to the agenda?
So why is the same determination not shown when the person at the center of the allegations is an AKP mayor?
Law cannot change according to political parties. The law cannot be applied differently to a CHP member and an AKP member.
In accordance with the principle of equality in the Constitution, everyone must be subject to the same investigation procedure.
A mayor's duty is not to facilitate uncontrolled human passage across the border, but to serve the public.
The law applied to the CHP must also be applied to the AKP. "
