Yunus Emre Geçti, who martyred police officer Şeyda Yılmaz in Istanbul's Ümraniye district last night, was brought to the courthouse in an animal transport vehicle while wearing a trash bag. The 19-year-old murder suspect was accompanied by female police officers.
Sözcü's Ankara Representative Saygı Öztürk stated that an investigation has been launched following this incident.
Öztürk said the following regarding the matter:
"The martyrdom of public officials by people who have become crime machines has drawn a major reaction from society. I spoke with Interior Ministry officials. They said, 'We are in a state of outrage.'
They believe that the security units experienced an outburst of anger. They stated, 'Turkey is, above all else, a state of law. An investigation has been opened. A chief police inspector and a chief civil inspector have been assigned,' they said. "
WHAT HAD HAPPENED?
Yunus Emre Geçti, who had been detained at the Dudullu Police Station in connection with a motorcycle theft and was learned to have 26 separate criminal records, had escaped from the station.
Police officers K.H.S. and Şeyda Yılmaz, who were on duty at the station, had pursued the fleeing suspect to apprehend him.
The suspect, Yunus Emre Geçti, was caught after a short chase, during which a scuffle broke out.
Police officer Şeyda Yılmaz was martyred after the suspect grabbed a police officer's weapon and fired into the surroundings. In the incident, police officer K.H.S. and the suspect's mother, P.G. (43), were injured.
