The Istanbul Chief Public Prosecutor's Office has launched an investigation against the news site T24 due to an article titled "Journalists Nazım Daştan and Cihan Bilgin killed in Syria", and against Seyhan Avşar for social media posts praising Nazım Daştan and Cihan Bilgin, on charges of making terrorist propaganda.
In a statement from the Istanbul Chief Public Prosecutor's Office, it was stated: "Following the article titled 'Journalists Nazım Daştan and Cihan Bilgin killed in Syria' published on the news site T24 on 20/12/2024, and the posts made by the individual named Seyhan Avşar on her Twitter social media account on 21/12/2024, an ex officio investigation has been launched by our Chief Public Prosecutor's Office for the crimes of 'Making Terrorist Organization Propaganda and Publicly Disseminating Misleading Information' due to findings that the posts contained words praising Nazım Daştan and Cihan Bilgin—who have records regarding their membership in the PKK terrorist organization (details provided below)—and also disseminated misleading information claiming they were killed due to their alleged journalistic activities and identities."
