The Presidency of Religious Affairs (Diyanet) has announced that an investigation has been launched into allegations regarding social media posts made by Istanbul's Çatalca District Mufti Ahmet Mehmetalioğlu.
Mufti Mehmetalioğlu's post regarding artist Volkan Konak, who passed away on stage, had drawn backlash.
In the statement made by the Presidency,
"Following reports in the public eye in recent days containing allegations regarding certain social media posts by Istanbul Çatalca District Mufti Ahmet Mehmetalioğlu, an investigation has been initiated by our Presidency regarding the matter," the statement read.
