A statement has been issued regarding the investigation launched into CHP Chairman Özgür Özel.
The statement made by the Prosecutor's Office included the following:
“An ex officio investigation has been launched against the individual named Özgür Özel, a member of parliament and political party leader, for the crime of Publicly Spreading Misleading Information under Article 217/A of the Turkish Penal Code No. 5237, due to his actions during an outdoor event held in the Muratpaşa district of Antalya, where he publicly disseminated information that was clearly contrary to the truth regarding an ongoing investigation file under the jurisdiction of the Manavgat Chief Public Prosecutor's Office, in a manner capable of disrupting public peace.”
