An investigation has been launched into journalists Fatih Altaylı and İsmail Saymaz for the crime of "publicly disseminating misleading information."
According to a report by Fahrettin Öztürk from Cumhuriyet, the Istanbul Chief Public Prosecutor's Office has launched an ex officio investigation into journalists İsmail Saymaz and Fatih Altaylı for the crime of "publicly disseminating misleading information." The investigation follows an article written by Fatih Altaylı on November 21 titled "Those who do not fear the rubble do not fear prison" and claims made by İsmail Saymaz on the same day during the program "Rota" broadcast on Halk TV, which were denied by a statement from the Presidency's Directorate of Communications Center for Combating Disinformation, regarding the allegation that "President Erdoğan showed Bahçeli some footage concerning MHP deputies."
FIRST STATEMENT FROM İsmail Saymaz
Reacting to the decision, İsmail Saymaz stated the following in a post on X:
“An investigation has been launched into Fatih Altaylı and me on the allegation that we said, 'Erdoğan showed Bahçeli some footage regarding MHP deputies who resigned.'
I have no such statement.
Even if I did say it…
There is no investigation into the deputies alleged to have smuggled gold, but there is one for us.”
