Investigation launched into Onur Alp Yılmaz

The Istanbul Chief Public Prosecutor's Office has launched an ex officio investigation into political scientist Onur Alp Yılmaz on charges of "hate and discrimination" and "inciting the public to hatred and hostility," alleging that his remarks during a program broadcast on Halk TV "prevented a segment of the public from engaging in economic activity."

WHAT DID ONUR ALP YILMAZ SAY?

Appearing as a guest on Halk TV recently, Yılmaz stated that boycotts were insufficient and noted that the Turkish economy relies on taxes derived from consumption. In his speech, Yılmaz cited the example of Serbia, saying, "They stop life for a few days. No one consumes anything. In this context, reducing consumption to zero on certain days would be more of a deterrent for the government. There is great benefit in evaluating this and looking at the example of Serbia."
