A video of an incident in a school restroom where an Iraqi 8th-grade student, B., slapped a 7th-grade student, U., had sparked outrage on social media.

The Düzce Governor's Office announced that a judicial and administrative investigation has been launched into the incident.

In a statement issued by the Düzce Governor's Office, it was stated that the incident occurred yesterday in the restroom of a middle school, and it was noted that, "It has been determined that an Iraqi 8th-grade student, B., slapped a 7th-grade student, U., and that the victimized student and their parent have filed a complaint regarding the incident. When the current findings and the statements of the parties involved are evaluated together, it has been established that, contrary to what has been reflected in the public sphere, no individuals or children of Syrian or Afghan nationality are involved in the matter, that the incident is an isolated event, and that no similar incident has previously been recorded at the school in question."

EDUCATION INSPECTORS ASSIGNED

The statement, which emphasized that a judicial investigation is being conducted by the Düzce Chief Public Prosecutor's Office regarding the incident, further stated, "Additionally, education inspectors have been assigned for the administrative investigation, and it is understood that disciplinary proceedings have been initiated by the school administration. Every type of peer bullying incident that occurs or may occur in our schools is handled with sensitivity at both the judicial and administrative levels, and developments regarding the incident in question will continue to be shared with the public."
