Following Future Party Chairman Ahmet Davutoğlu's remarks that "I have not broken away from the AK Party; if the President calls, I will go," it was alleged that Davutoğlu and party members would join the AKP.

Future Party Deputy Chairman Selçuk Özdağ made a statement regarding the claims that have been circulating for some time that his party would join the AKP. Stating, "If I were to join the AK Party, I would be doing a disservice to those who voted for me," Özdağ added, "Both I, my colleagues, and Mr. Davutoğlu are where we are."

Speaking on a program he was a guest on at Halk TV, Özdağ said, "Right now, I am where I am; I am in the opposition. I am in office until May 2028."

In his full statement, Özdağ said the following:

"When asked 'Would you join if an offer came from the AK Party?', he replied, 'Well, it is very difficult to talk about such a thing now. I served as a member of parliament for 3 terms in the Justice and Development Party. In Muğla, I received votes from CHP supporters and Democrat Party supporters as well. If I were to join the AK Party, I would be doing a disservice to those who voted for me. Right now, I am where I am; I am in the opposition. I am in office until May 2028. Both I, my colleagues, and Mr. Davutoğlu are where we are. We are fighting where we are.'"
