In a written statement from the Israeli Ministry of Defense, it was stated that Director General of the Ministry of Defense Eyal Zamir signed an order for "Iron Sting" precision-guided munitions valued at over $220 million.

The statement noted that the purchase was made from an Israel-based company and aims to increase the operational power of the Israeli Ground Forces. It was argued that the laser-guided technology used in the munitions allows for hitting targets with precision, thereby "preventing harm to those other than combatants."

The Israeli army has drawn international criticism for its bombardment of the Gaza Strip, which has continued for approximately 10 months and has resulted in the death and injury of more than 130 thousand Palestinians.
