Israeli retired general: If the war of attrition continues, Israel will collapse within 1 year

Retired Israeli Major General Yitzhak Brik stated in his article for the Haaretz newspaper that most of the statements made by Israeli Defense Minister Yoav Gallant throughout the war have been proven baseless.

Providing examples of this, Brik said, "Gallant said that after the ground invasion of Gaza City, Israel had control over the entire city and its tunnels, and that Hamas would surrender in a short time. After the invasion of Khan Yunis, he claimed that Hamas leader Yahya Sinwar was running alone in the tunnels, had lost control over his men, and would be captured within a few days."

'GALLANT HAS BEGUN TO WAKE UP FROM HIS SLEEP'

Emphasizing that Gallant has misled the Israeli public with these statements, Brik assessed, "Gallant has recently begun to wake up from his sleep. In the Knesset Foreign Affairs and Defense Committee, he declared that 'total victory' in Gaza is nonsense. Likewise, he has begun to realize that failing to reach a hostage exchange deal with Hamas could trigger a regional war that would put Israel in great danger."

Brik included the following statements in his article:

Gallant has begun to realize that the war has deviated from its goal, that Israel is stuck in the Gaza quagmire, and that it is losing more soldiers every day without achieving the fundamental goal of the war (the downfall of Hamas). Israel is heading toward the edge of the abyss. If the war of attrition against Hamas and Hezbollah continues, it will collapse within a maximum of 1 year.

'ISRAEL WILL COLLAPSE WITHIN A MAXIMUM OF 1 YEAR'

Attacks in the West Bank and within Israel have increased, and the economy is collapsing. Israel has become a pariah state, which has led to economic boycotts and bans on arms shipments. We have also begun to lose our social resilience, as the growing hatred between different segments of the country poses a threat to destroy the nation from within.

Stating that "Hezbollah Secretary-General Hassan Nasrallah and Hamas leader Yahya Sinwar are aware of this dire situation that Israel is experiencing," Brik noted the following regarding the hostage exchange negotiations:

'THERE IS NO ROOM TO MANEUVER'

What was possible for Israel to achieve previously through a ceasefire agreement has now become impossible due to (Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin) Netanyahu's new conditions. Those participating in the negotiations in Doha (the Israeli delegation) say they cannot find any room to maneuver because Netanyahu has tied their hands.

Israel's resort to assassinations carries the danger of setting the entire Middle East on fire. This policy was decided by '3 fire-starters: Netanyahu, Gallant, and Halevi.' Sinwar, on the other hand, knows that the war of attrition is in his interest. For this reason, he currently prefers the war over a deal.

In his article, Brik expressed that Netanyahu has lost his humanity, morality, values, standards, and sense of responsibility for Israel's security, and that only a change in him and his associates can save Israel. Brik stated that Israel has entered a state of existential defeat and could soon reach a point of no return.
