Istanbul Chief Public Prosecutor's Office announces: Investigation into Beyoğlu Municipality's past tenders

CHP Chairman Özgür Özel, speaking at a rally in Beyoğlu, stated that Güney had handed over the documents in question to the police during the search of the Beyoğlu Municipality, saying, "İnan Güney handed over the documents of the previous AKP municipality to the police like a gift package, despite inflation. The police have them, the prosecutor's office has them. This is my open call to Akın Gürlek. Go to the AKP-run municipalities where Aziz İhsan Aktaş worked, and let's see!"

The statement from the Chief Public Prosecutor's Office is as follows:

“Documents in the form of information notes, which were handed over to police officers during the search of the office of İnan Güney—who was arrested as part of the investigation numbered 2024/228233 currently being conducted by our Istanbul Chief Public Prosecutor's Office—and which contain information regarding certain past tenders held by the Beyoğlu Municipality, have been seized. As it was determined upon examination of the contents of these documents that they were not related to the scope of the aforementioned file, proceedings have been initiated by our Chief Public Prosecutor's Office under a separate investigation number.”

ÖZEL HAD MADE A CALL AT THE BEYOĞLU RALLY

CHP Chairman Özgür Özel had said the following in his speech at the rally in Beyoğlu:

"Dear residents of Beyoğlu, if those who arrested İnan Güney were looking for corruption, Mayor İnan had prepared a file for them. It has been recorded in the Beyoğlu Municipality search report. The previous administration had facade cladding work done for 550 liras per square meter; Mayor İnan had it done for 72 liras. During the AKP era, 11.5 million was paid for 6 months of corporate communications. Mayor İnan paid 1.5 million liras. Mr. Akın Gürlek, a municipality is audited by the Court of Accounts. If it finds a crime, it reports it to the prosecutor's office and takes action. İnan Güney handed over the documents of the previous AKP municipality to the police like a gift package, despite inflation. The police have them, the prosecutor's office has them. Let's see you show up at the door of Beyoğlu's previous administration tomorrow. I am stating this clearly: if you say 'I am a person of law, I am pursuing corruption, I have integrity, I treat everyone equally,' then go to the AKP-run municipalities and let's see.
