Statement from Istanbul Governor Gül regarding the youth who claimed 'I am the governor's nephew': And the expected end

S.O., who violated traffic rules in Sarıyer and told other drivers while in his luxury vehicle equipped with illegal sirens that he was the "governor's nephew," was apprehended. He was fined 146 thousand liras and his driver's license was confiscated. In a statement on his social media account, Istanbul Governor Davut Gül said, "When it comes to the common law of our valued fellow citizens, we do not grant privileges to anyone. We will not turn a blind eye to these lawbreakers."

In a video shared on social media, a person driving a luxury vehicle equipped with illegal sirens was seen telling those recording him, "I am the governor's nephew," before driving away.

"HE IS NOT MY NEPHEW"

Making a statement about the video on his social media account, Istanbul Governor Davut Gül stated that this person is not his relative and that the necessary legal proceedings would be initiated.

In his post, Governor Gül stated, "The person who does not follow traffic rules is not my nephew. The light and sound equipment in his vehicle is not legal. Necessary legal action will be taken regarding this matter. Even if he were my relative, this situation would not change anything."

As part of the work carried out by the Virtual Traffic Patrol teams of the Istanbul Police Department's Traffic Inspection Branch, S.O. (22), the driver of the vehicle who wanted to gain priority in traffic by using siren equipment on April 28, 2025, at the Ayazağa junction on Cendere Street in the Sarıyer district, and whose footage was shared on social media, was apprehended.

TRAFFIC BULLY APPREHENDED

A traffic administrative fine of 146 thousand 134 TL was issued to S.O. for using sound and light equipment contrary to regulations, using an APP license plate, dangerous lane changing, tailgating, and driving disrespectfully. His driver's license was temporarily suspended for 30 days, and the vehicle was banned from traffic for 30 days.

In addition, judicial proceedings were initiated against the driver S.O. under the articles of 'endangering traffic safety' and 'obstructing the movement of a land transport vehicle by using force or threats or other unlawful behavior, stopping this vehicle while it is in motion, or taking it to a place other than where it is going.' The apprehended driver S.O. will be referred to judicial authorities after the investigation procedures are completed.
