Istanbul Governor's Office announces fire in Silivri has been brought under control

The fire broke out around 13:45 in the Akören neighborhood of Silivri. The fire, which began as a stubble fire, spread over a wide area due to the wind. As the fire grew rapidly, fire crews from all districts of Istanbul were dispatched to the scene.

The Istanbul Governor's Office announced that the fire in Silivri was brought under control as of 17:45 and that cooling efforts in the area are ongoing.

Visiting the fire zone, Istanbul Metropolitan Municipality Deputy Mayor Nuri Aslan stated to members of the press, "71 vehicles and 205 personnel intervened in the fire across an area of 9.5 square kilometers. There is a possibility of it spreading due to the wind. We are taking all necessary precautions. Other teams will also arrive at the scene. It appears we have it under control for now, but the wind is very strong. There are no injuries or loss of life. There is damage to a few abandoned buildings and some newly constructed buildings. We have not had any problems with occupied buildings. The area is very large, and it is summer, so the grass is dry."
