The statement indicated that strong downpours and thunderstorms are expected, particularly in Istanbul's Şile and Beykoz districts, as well as in the northern parts of Kocaeli and Sakarya (Kaynarca, Karasu, Kocaali).

The Governor's Office reported that the rainfall expected to affect the region could reach between 21 and 50 kilograms per square meter locally.

BEWARE OF THE RISK OF FLOODS AND INUNDATION

The statement noted that the rainfall could be sudden and short-lived, and therefore, caution should be exercised against negative consequences such as floods, water inundation, lightning, strong winds, and localized hail.

Furthermore, it was warned that the wind could reach storm speeds for short periods during the rainfall, which could cause disruptions in transportation.

CITIZENS WARNED

In a statement made via its social media accounts and official website, the Istanbul Governor's Office called on citizens to avoid open areas as much as possible, to stay away from stream beds, and for drivers to exercise caution on the roads.

Additionally, municipal teams and relevant institutions were asked to remain on alert against the risk of potential flooding and water inundation.

RAINFALL MAY CONTINUE UNTIL EVENING HOURS

According to the assessments of meteorological experts, the rainfall is expected to increase in intensity starting from the afternoon hours and continue as locally strong downpours until the evening.

Authorities reported that air temperatures may drop by a few degrees following the rainfall and that this situation could persist until the weekend.
