Grave prices in Istanbul have also soared! 60 percent hike

According to the tariff set by the Istanbul Metropolitan Municipality (IMM) Council, the fees for empty grave plots in the city range from 7,152 Turkish Lira to 111,632 Turkish Lira, depending on the group they are in.

The third session of the IMM Council's December meeting was held at the municipal building in Saraçhane, chaired by the 1st Deputy Speaker of the Council, Nuri Aslan.

Cemetery fees and service charges for 2025 were discussed at the meeting. The council determined the funeral services and cemetery fees that will be effective starting January 1, 2025.

According to the tariff, which was accepted unanimously as it came from the commission, services such as morgues, wooden coffins, funeral coffin shrouds, funeral burial procedures, and transportation outside of Istanbul will continue to be provided free of charge.

PAID SERVICES AND CEMETERY PLOT FEES

The burial fee with a coffin increased from 740 lira to 1,184 lira, the briquette tomb fee from 1,850 lira to 3,700 lira, the grave relocation fee (excluding the plot fee) from 3,730 lira to 5,968 lira, the single-story tomb fee from 4,820 lira to 9,240 lira, and the double-story tomb fee from 6,170 lira to 12,340 lira.

Cemetery plot fees varied according to the groups.

In the first group, which includes Karacaahmet, Nakkaştepe, Çengelköy 1st Section, Zincirlikuyu, Aşiyan, Nafibaba, Ulus, and Abide-i Hürriyet, the plot fee increased from 11,190 lira to 17,904 lira.

The fee for an empty plot next to a burial increased from 34,890 lira to 55,824 lira, the fee for an empty grave plot increased by 60 percent from 69,770 lira to 111,632 lira, and the plot fee for a child's funeral increased from 11,190 lira to 17,904 lira.

In the second group of cemeteries, which includes Emirgan, Edirnekapı Martyrs' Cemetery, Merdivenköy, Küçükbakkalköy, Bülbülderesi, Feriköy, Sütlüce, and Avcılar, the plot fee increased from 2,030 lira to 3,248 lira, the fee for an empty plot next to a burial increased from 13,990 lira to 22,384 lira, and the fee for an empty grave plot increased from 27,980 lira to 44,788 lira. The plot fee for a child's funeral, which was 2,030 lira, became 3,248 lira.

In the third group of cemeteries, which includes Hekimbaşı, Kurtköy, Çekmeköy, Kilyos, Cebeci, and Kayabaşı, the plot fee increased from 170 lira to 272 lira, the empty grave plot fee from 9,330 lira to 14,928 lira, the fee for an empty plot next to a burial from 4,660 lira to 7,456 lira, and the plot fee for a child's funeral from 80 lira to 128 lira.

In the fourth group of cemeteries, which includes Ayazağa, Bahçeköy, Kemerburgaz, and Kısırkaya, which previously had village status, the plot fee increased from 170 lira to 272 lira, the empty grave plot fee from 4,470 lira to 7,152 lira, the fee for an empty plot next to a burial from 2,240 lira to 3,584 lira, and the plot fee for a child's funeral from 80 lira to 128 lira.

In cemeteries belonging to non-Muslims, the plot fee for a funeral increased from 850 lira to 1,360 lira, the fee for an empty grave plot next to a burial from 8,960 lira to 14,336 lira, the empty grave plot fee from 14,550 lira to 23,280 lira, and the plot fee for a child's funeral from 340 lira to 544 lira.
