Istanbul Metropolitan Municipality Mayor Ekrem İmamoğlu and CHP Chairman Özgür Özel are heading to Paris

Istanbul Metropolitan Municipality (IMM)is preparing to promote Turkey at the historic fashion museum Palais Galliera in Paris to secure the hosting of the 2036 Olympic Games in Istanbul.  

An event has been organized in Paris to promote Turkey, which is competing against India, Chile, Indonesia, South Korea, and Qatar to host the 2036 Olympic Games. Istanbul Mayor Ekrem İmamoğlu will be in Paris from August 6-9 for the promotion.

CHP Chairman Özgür Özel will also travel to Paris tomorrow with his 23-year-old daughter, İpek Özel, to watch the quarter-final match of the National Women's Volleyball Team at the 2024 Paris Summer Olympics, which will take place on Tuesday, August 6.

CHP Chairman Özgür Özel's schedule in Paris is being planned as open-ended. If the National Women's Volleyball Team advances to the semi-finals, Özel is expected to watch that match as well. It has been learned that if the visit is extended, İmamoğlu may attend the program at the Palais Galliera.

Ekrem İmamoğlu will also watch the quarter-final match of the Sultans of the Net. 

Istanbul's promotional events will take place on August 7-8. The promotional activities of the Istanbul Metropolitan Municipality (IMM), which rented the Palais Galliera, a famous historic fashion museum and one of Paris's most prestigious buildings, for the purpose of promoting Istanbul, were limited to two days due to austerity measures. Other countries competing to host the Olympics are conducting their promotional activities throughout the 2024 Paris Summer Olympics, spanning 15 days.

ISTANBUL WILL BE PROMOTED

The Istanbul Municipality rented the Palais Galliera, also known as the Fashion Museum of Paris and one of its most prestigious buildings, from the Paris Municipality to promote Turkey. Preparations for the building will begin two days in advance. The historic 19th-century building is located in Paris's 16th arrondissement, known for its elegance, and is situated near the Turkish Embassy.

In the building, which has been under the administration of the Paris Municipality since 1977, the IMM will organize exhibitions in the fields of sports, culture, and art. In addition to an exhibition on Turkey's 100-year sports history, culture and art exhibitions will also be opened. The sports-themed exhibition will also convey Turkey's preparations on the path to hosting the 2027 European Games.

In the exhibition where Istanbul will be described through the eyes of artists, paintings and photographs of Istanbul by artists such as Ara Güler and Nuri Bilge Ceylan will be featured digitally. Another exhibition, curated by Bedri Baykam, will focus on Turkish artists who have passed through Paris.

Furthermore, the Istanbul Planning Agency will share data detailing the steps to be taken regarding the city until 2036. In addition to events featuring discussions focused on culture, art, and sports, ongoing sports competitions will be broadcast on a large screen on the building's terrace.

IMPORTANT NAMES WILL BE HOSTED

On the evening of August 7, important figures from the International Olympic Committee, the sports community, and the worlds of culture, art, and business will be hosted at the famous fashion museum.

Ekrem İmamoğlu, National Olympic Committee President Uğur Erdener, European Olympic Committees President Spyros Capralos, and a former Turkish female Olympic athlete will deliver speeches at the event. In addition to a short concert, guests, particularly foreign invitees, will be treated to select delicacies from Turkish cuisine.

Promotional events on the evening of August 8 will be aimed at the Turkish community. Ekrem İmamoğlu is scheduled to depart from France on August 9.

İmamoğlu, who traveled to the Paris Olympics with his wife Dilek Kaya İmamoğlu, had shared on his social media account: “The Palais Galliera in Paris is transforming into Istanbul House. We will promote our city for the 2036 Olympics.”
