Footage of attack on IYI Party Beypazari District Chair Recep Onder had emerged: Statement from Atila Celik

Former Ankara Metropolitan Municipality Mayor Melih Gokcek had shared footage of IYI Party Beypazari District Chair Recep Onder being beaten by relatives of Ankara Metropolitan Municipality Council Member Atila Celik. Former Ankara Metropolitan Municipality Mayor Melih Gokcek had shared footage on social media of IYI Party Beypazari District Chair Recep Onder being beaten by relatives of Ankara Metropolitan Municipality Council Member Atila Celik.

In the footage, Erdinc Tanriverdi, who is stated to be Atila Celik's nephew, was seen dragging Recep Onder on the ground and beating him.

The assailant forced Onder to apologize to Ankara Metropolitan Mayor Mansur Yavas and Atila Celik under threat.

Meanwhile, Ankara Metropolitan Municipality Beypazari Council Member Atila Celik also issued a written statement regarding the matter.

"THE MATTER HAS NOTHING TO DO WITH THE IYI PARTY"

Celik stated the following in his statement:

"I am sharing with the public the facts regarding the issue brought to the agenda last night by a 'troll-in-chief' and spread by trolls with the aim of harming both me and ABB Mayor Mr. Mansur Yavas. YOU WILL WITNESS HOW A PERCEPTION BALLOON IS DEFLATED.

1. The issue is aimed at sending a purposeful message to the IYI Party base. THE INCIDENT TOOK PLACE IN 2020. The person involved in the fight was not the IYI Party District Chair at that time. On the contrary, at that time, I was engaged in politics in the IYI Party and was continuing my duty as a Council Member. In other words, the matter has NOTHING to do with the IYI Party.

2. The parties in the fight are people who have known each other for years, grew up together, and were raised on the same streets. I learned after the incident that in 2020, two friends got into a fight after sitting in a venue at night and going home in the same car, when my name was mentioned. Therefore, neither I, nor especially our Mayor Mansur, have any knowledge, involvement, or information regarding the matter. A fight that two friends had among themselves in the late hours of the night does not bind us.

As a person who has taken care not to hurt even an ant for years, I am of course clearly against all forms of violence. Despite this, I will certainly not give in to those who try to politically profit from a fight between two people."

"THE SUPPORT HE COULD NOT OPENLY GIVE TO ALTINOK..."

In his statement, Celik also tagged Melih Gokcek, saying, "The game of a 'troll-in-chief' who wants to present the support he could not openly give to Turgut Altinok with pathetic ideas that he thinks will harm our Mayor Mansur, just to be able to say 'I did this too' one of these days, has been spoiled again. Since he likes sharing recordings, I state that I am also waiting for him to share the '3GEN' recording circulating in the market."

Celik continued his words as follows:

"It is clear that no lesson has been learned from the fact that this dirty politics has been melting day by day in the face of our Mayor Mansur, despite the fact that there has been no slander left unsaid and no mud left unthrown for 5 years. The truth has a habit of coming to light. As a result of these truths, the public's interest and support for our Mayor Mansur is growing street by street, avenue by avenue, and it will grow even more."
