Expressing that he has never viewed politics as being focused on positions, Özen noted that he has acted in accordance with this understanding. In his statement, he indicated that he made the decision after a post he shared on his personal social media account became a subject of debate regarding the party, and he emphasized that his removal from office was not in question.

Özen stated that his resignation was entirely a requirement of his own will and his sense of political responsibility, adding that his priority was to ensure that the party he belongs to and the provincial presidency are not damaged in the eyes of the public.

Thanking the organization members he worked with during his tenure, the provincial presidency, and the Salihli public, Özen announced that he would continue his political activities independently of his position.
