İYİ Party proposes abolishing interviews for teacher appointments

İYİ Party Ankara Deputy Kürşad Zorlu has submitted a legislative proposal to the Parliament aimed at abolishing interviews for teacher appointments.

Addressing the government, Zorlu said, "Let us end this together and get rid of the excuse that 'we are forced to implement it because it is in the law.'"

Stating that despite the promise made by President and AKP Chairman Recep Tayyip Erdoğan before the elections to abolish interviews for public appointments, no steps have been taken yet, Zorlu expressed that the İYİ Party has prepared a legislative proposal for teacher appointments.

In the justification for the bill submitted by Zorlu to the Parliament, it is emphasized that the interview practice used specifically for teacher appointments is inappropriate given the importance of the teaching profession. Furthermore, it is stated that the teaching profession is a specialized field and that teachers receive training in their areas of expertise; therefore, it is argued that the interview is a subjective evaluation method.

The justification states that abolishing interviews would make the appointment process more objective and that an evaluation system based solely on exam scores would measure the knowledge level of candidates more objectively, emphasizing that this change would provide a fair competitive environment and allow every candidate to be evaluated under equal conditions.

Zorlu also called on the government, stating that the proposal regarding the abolition of interviews should be brought to the agenda of the Grand National Assembly of Turkey (TBMM).
