Following the Buca, Bayraklı, Bornova, and Karşıyaka districts of İzmir, another strike report has come from İzmir. Workers at İZFAŞ, a subsidiary of the İzmir Metropolitan Municipality, have decided to go on strike because their demands were not met. It was learned that the Social Democratic Public Employers' Union (SODEM-SEN) did not accept the clause at İZFAŞ that it had accepted in negotiations with other municipal subsidiaries.

The workers, who decided to strike after the 6-month collective bargaining process reached a deadlock, gathered in front of the İZFAŞ office located at the İzmir Fair. The following statements were included in the press release:

“The fact that SODEM-SEN does not deem the gains it has accepted in many companies appropriate for İZFAŞ personnel is, in our view, a sign of discrimination. For Genel-İş, which has always defended the policy of equal pay for equal work, this situation is unacceptable. As long as the gains accepted in other companies are not applied to İZFAŞ personnel, there can be no talk of industrial peace in our view. Where there is no industrial peace, the collective bargaining agreement cannot be considered concluded."
