Izmir Metro malfunction: 11 injured

In the Izmir Metro, 11 people were slightly injured after a malfunctioning escalator began moving in the opposite direction. The Izmir Metropolitan Municipality stated that the maintenance of the escalators had been performed one day before the incident and that a legal investigation has been launched.

In the Izmir Metro, 11 people were injured after a malfunctioning escalator began moving in the opposite direction. Health teams dispatched to the scene transported the injured to hospitals for check-ups. The escalator providing exit from the Üçyol Metro Station in the Konak district suddenly began moving in the opposite direction for reasons yet to be determined while passengers were on it. 11 people who lost their balance and fell on the escalator moving in the opposite direction were slightly injured.

 In a statement made by the Izmir Metropolitan Municipality, it was noted: "The service and maintenance of the Üçyol Metro Station escalators were performed on June 30, one day before the malfunction occurred, and were completed at 17:00 according to the records. Metro AŞ technical teams and experts from the TMMOB Chamber of Mechanical Engineers Izmir Branch are working together to determine the cause of the malfunction, and a legal investigation has also been launched simultaneously."
