WHO IS FİLİZ CERİTOĞLU SENGEL?
Filiz Ceritoğlu Sengel was born in İzmir in 1981. Having completed her primary and secondary education in Selçuk, Sengel was admitted to the Marmara University Faculty of Law in 1999.
After receiving her license from the Istanbul Bar Association in 2004 and beginning her legal career, Filiz Ceritoğlu Sengel started a master's degree in the Private Law Department of the Faculty of Law in the same year, specializing in Intellectual and Artistic Property Law.
FİLİZ CERİTOĞLU SENGEL'S CAREER
After completing her legal internship in Istanbul and gaining professional experience, Filiz Ceritoğlu Sengel returned to Selçuk in 2007 to establish her own law firm. Elected to the Selçuk Municipal Council from the CHP in the 2009 local elections, Sengel served in important roles between 2009 and 2014, including membership in the Legal Commission, the EU Harmonization Commission, and the Education, Culture, and Sports Commission, as well as serving as a member of the Municipal Executive Committee and as a Council Secretary.
Between 2010 and 2019, she participated in projects supporting social education through the Association for Supporting Continuous Education and Personal Development, of which she was the founding president.
Elected to the İzmir Metropolitan and Selçuk Municipal Councils in the 2014 local elections, Filiz Ceritoğlu Sengel held positions such as CHP Group Deputy Chairperson in the İzmir Metropolitan Council, and member of the Audit Commission, Legal Commission, and Council Secretary between 2014 and 2019. During the same period, she served in the Selçuk Municipal Council as Chairperson of the Legal Commission, and as a member of the Zoning Commission, the Sports, Education, and Culture Commission, and as Chairperson of the Gender Equality Commission.
Participating in the 2019 local elections as the CHP's candidate for Mayor of Selçuk, Sengel succeeded in becoming the first female mayor of Selçuk.
Since taking office in 2019, Filiz Ceritoğlu Sengel has initiated promotional efforts to ensure that Ephesus and Selçuk are recognized as a whole, and she continues to carry out significant work in her district with projects focused on women, children, youth, and local producers, based on an approach that transforms assistance into solidarity.
