Critical warning for 3 regions from Japanese earthquake expert Moriwaki!

Civil engineer, architect, and earthquake expert Yoshinori Moriwaki participated in the "Kayseri 1st Earthquake Awareness Panel."

Speaking at the panel organized by Erciyes University at the Provincial Directorate of Culture and Tourism Culture Center, Yoshinori stated that the North Anatolian Fault Line is one of the major fault lines in the world, extending from Indonesia and Malaysia through India, Afghanistan, Iraq, Azerbaijan, Turkey, Greece, Italy, and Spain.

TSUNAMI WARNING

Stating that a tsunami could also occur following a potential earthquake, Yoshinori noted the following:

"If you ask where an earthquake might occur, it could first happen south of Cyprus. If an earthquake occurs within the sea, a tsunami may also occur. For example, when you shake a glass, a small wave is created, but when you shake a large bucket, the wave is larger. That is why tsunamis are large in earthquakes that occur in Japan. The world's largest earthquake occurred in Chile. At that moment, there was nothing in Japan, but 23 hours later, a tsunami 5-7 meters high reached us. We can say that in the Mediterranean, Aegean, and Marmara Seas, a tsunami one meter high could generally occur. If there is also a landslide in some deep parts of the sea along with the earthquake, this could reach three meters in height."

Touching upon the earthquakes experienced in Kayseri, Yoshinori recalled that there were earthquakes in the city, which is in a 3rd-degree earthquake zone, in 1717 and 1835.

Yoshinori noted that Kayseri, which has a fault line, is luckier compared to cities like Istanbul and Izmir.

Erciyes University Rector Prof. Dr. Fatih Altun stated that earthquakes should be kept in mind at all times, not just on their anniversaries.

"WE NEED TO CONDUCT DRILLS"

Drawing attention to the importance of how to behave during an earthquake, Altun spoke as follows:

"We must definitely develop our children and youth for a potential earthquake scenario by conducting drills starting from primary school, or even kindergarten, regarding how we should behave during an earthquake, and inform them about what to do in an emergency. We need to keep these fresh at all times. If possible, these rehearsals can be done once a month. As a university, we want to implement a new hospital project. We will build a hospital with isolators. One of the biggest advantages of this is not because we are afraid of earthquakes, but to ensure that a potential surgical service continues without interruption during an earthquake."
