Joe Biden's statement on the Trump assassination attempt

US President Biden held a press conference at the White House regarding the assassination attempt on former US President and Presidential candidate Donald Trump. Biden said, "There is no place in America for this kind of violence or any violence. An assassination attempt is contrary to everything we stand for as a nation. We are not like this as a nation, America is not like this, and we cannot allow this to happen. Unity is a difficult goal to achieve, but right now nothing is more important than unity." Biden used the following expressions in his statement:

"HE WAS A FATHER PROTECTING HIS FAMILY"

"I spoke with Donald Trump last night. I am genuinely pleased that he is doing well and recovering. We had a short and good conversation. Jill and I are praying for him and his family. We also extend our deepest condolences to the family of the victim who was killed. He was a father protecting his family.

We are also praying for the full recovery of those who were injured, and we extend our thanks to the Secret Service agents and other law enforcement officers, and to the individuals who risk their lives for our nation.

As I said last night, there is no place in America for this kind of violence or any violence. An assassination attempt is contrary to everything we stand for as a nation. We are not like this as a nation, America is not like this, and we cannot allow this to happen. Unity is a difficult goal to achieve, but right now nothing is more important than unity.

"DO NOT MAKE ASSUMPTIONS ABOUT THE ATTACKER'S MOTIVES"

Vice President Harris and I were just briefed in the White House Situation Room by my Security Team, which included the FBI Director, the Secretary of Homeland Security, the Attorney General, the Director of the Secret Service, my Homeland Security Advisor, and my National Security Advisor. The FBI is leading this investigation, which is still in its early stages. We do not have any information regarding the attacker's motivation, we only know who he is. I urge everyone, please do not make assumptions about the attacker's motives or affiliations. Let the FBI and its partner agencies do their job. I have directed that this investigation be conducted thoroughly and swiftly, and investigators will have every resource they need to do so.

BIDEN: I GAVE INSTRUCTIONS FOR TRUMP'S SECURITY

Here is what we will do while this investigation continues. First, Mr. Trump, as a former president and the nominee of the Republican Party, already has a high level of security. I have directed the Secret Service to provide him with every resource and protective measure necessary to ensure his continued safety. Second, I have directed the Director of the Secret Service to review all security measures for the Republican National Convention, which is scheduled to begin tomorrow. Third, I have directed an independent national security review to assess exactly what happened at yesterday's rally. We will share the results of this independent review with the American people. And finally, I will speak more at length about this matter tonight from the Oval Office. We must unite as one nation. We must unite as one nation and show who we are."
