The Istanbul Chief Public Prosecutor's Office announced that journalist Alican Uludağ has been detained on allegations of "publicly insulting the President" and "publicly disseminating misleading information."
In a statement issued by the Chief Public Prosecutor's Office, it was stated that Uludağ, who was detained in Ankara, will be brought to the courthouse on February 20.
Uludağ is expected to be referred to the prosecutor's office on February 20, 2026.
The Istanbul Chief Public Prosecutor's Office used the following expressions in its written statement:
“An ex officio investigation has been initiated by our Chief Public Prosecutor's Office regarding certain posts made by the individual named Alican Uludağ via the X social media account with the handle ‘@alicanuludağ’ on charges of ‘Publicly Insulting the President’ and ‘Publicly Disseminating Misleading Information,’ and the suspect has been apprehended and detained in the province of Ankara. Instructions have been issued for the individual to be brought to our Chief Public Prosecutor's Office on 20.02.2026. The investigation is being conducted meticulously.”
